- ➤ This weekend, Philadelphia locals can see El DeBarge’s falsetto show at City Winery on Friday, the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 at the Kimmel Center on Friday and Saturday, and the Tony Award-winning musical Suffs playing at the Academy of Music through Jan. 18. - ➤ Philadelphia Artists’ Collective is staging the 1921 drama 'Inheritors' at Community College of Philadelphia, where it runs through Jan. 24 (556 N. 17th St). The play tackles themes of free thought and personal risk in a college setting. Metro Philadelphia
- ➤ The Philadelphia Orchestra will honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with its 36th annual tribute concert on Monday, Jan. 19 at Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center. - ➤ The African American Museum in Philadelphia is hosting MLK Day weekend with half-price admission on Saturday, Jan. 17 & Sunday, Jan. 18 and free entry on Monday, Jan. 19; guests can enjoy a plant-based brunch, Selma screening & art-making sessions while a Ruth Carter costume exhibit is on view. - ➤ New Hope and Lambertville Restaurant Week is back Jan. 12-25 with more than two dozen restaurants offering prix fixe three-course meals ranging from $25 to $55 from lunch to dinner. - ➤ SEPTA said regional rail riders experienced fewer delays as eight Silverliner IV cars returned to service this week and all express trains resumed Monday. The agency will lease coach cars from MARC soon (to ease capacity issues) and expects full service by year's end. KYW Newsradio
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Philly has worked to support seniors in staying active with investments in curb ramps, accessible parks & community centers over the past decade. The Kroc Center in North Philly will soon launch Bingocize, a study program to boost mobility and independence for older residents. Metro Philadelphia
- ➤ Flu cases have risen sharply in the region since the winter holidays, with more children and adults visiting hospitals for fever, cough, and breathing trouble; health experts say a new subclade (K) is extending the flu season and urge residents to get their flu shots. WHYY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Eagles plan to give backup running back Tank Bigsby more touches in their playoff game against the 49ers on Sunday to ease Saquon Barkley’s workload. Bigsby impressed this season with a 5.9-yard average on limited carries and could help boost the offense. Metro Philadelphia
