ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia road crews are preparing over 400 plow trucks as a winter storm is forecast to drop 6 to 10 inches of snow from late Saturday through Monday morning. Residents are advised to stock up on supplies (including salt) and drive carefully in slippery conditions.  KYW Newsradio
  • A major winter storm is set to hit the area this weekend with heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain expected to begin Friday, according to weather forecasters. Exact snowfall totals will be clearer Friday when the National Weather Service in Mount Holly updates its predictions.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia's Office of Homeless Services declared an Enhanced Code Blue effective immediately amid forecast freezing temperatures, opening over a dozen warming centers at public sites such as Parks and Recreation facilities and libraries. The city is adding roughly 400 beds (50 extra during emergencies) to support those in need.  Metro Philadelphia

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A historic rowhouse on Cuthbert Street, built around 1760, now uses solar panels to lower bills and heat rooms with electric fireplaces. Owner Jane Berryman added the panels in 2019 to keep the home current for future generations.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Eagles are making free agency decisions after the season as they re-sign nine players and let 11 go. Key stays include Jaelan Phillips (improved run defense) and Nakobe Dean, while departing players include Dallas Goedert and Adoree’ Jackson.  Metro Philadelphia
