  • Crews responded to a water main break in Overbrook Park Monday morning as freezing temperatures made streets dangerously icy + a single-vehicle crash on City Avenue injured a driver.  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dozens of former Girl Scouts and enthusiasts gathered last Saturday at PECO’s headquarters at 23rd and Market to honor Philadelphia’s legacy of Girl Scout cookie sales from 1932 – the event featured storytelling and a vote that crowned Thin Mints as the favorite flavor.  WHYY
  • The Philly Auto Show runs today through Feb. 8 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center — featuring test drives, Camp Jeep for kids and appearances by former Eagles and Flyers players with models from Cadillac, Polestar and Tesla on display.  WHYY

  • Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Monday (indicating six more weeks of winter) as record-cold conditions persist in Philadelphia with temperatures below freezing for 10 consecutive days. Forecasts show Tuesday may be the warmest day with highs in the mid-30s.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection launched a new Enhanced Passenger Processing system at Philadelphia International Airport to speed up re-entry for U.S. travelers from abroad — cutting wait times by 25% while still allowing those who prefer a standard process to opt out.  KYW Newsradio
  • Voters will decide on PhillySaves, a plan that will automatically set up Roth IRAs for eligible employees at Philadelphia businesses on May 19. City Council approved the measure and Mayor Parker signed the bills, with contributions set to start by July 2027 & over 200,000 workers estimated to benefit.  Metro Philadelphia
  • A federal judge inspected panels from the President's House exhibit on Monday at a secure storage area at the National Constitution Center, saying she found no concerning damage (only some markings were visible) while advocates reported the panels were desecrated. The review comes amid a dispute over the exhibit's management.  WHYY
  • Effective Monday, Feb. 9, SEPTA ends generic canceled trip alerts for bus, trolley and Norristown High-Speed Line riders and directs them to specific trip details on its app, website and third-party apps, a move explained by spokesperson Andrew Busch (staffing is now over 95% filled).  KYW Newsradio

  • Registration is open for the 2026 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run on Sunday, May 3 at Broad Street and Somerville Ave, ending at the Navy Yard.   • Last night, Dominick Barlow set career highs with 26 points and 10 offensive rebounds to help the 76ers beat the Clippers 128-113. He became the first Sixers player to post such numbers since Charles Barkley in 1990 as the team began its five-game West Coast road trip.  Metro Philadelphia
