CULTURE NEWS

  • Ice Cream for Breakfast Day will be celebrated on Feb. 7 with breakfast-themed ice cream flights. Milk Jawn will serve cereal-inspired scoops at East Passyunk & Northern Liberties starting at 9 a.m. while Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will debut special treats at Chestnut and Frankford.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia celebrates Black History Month with free, family-friendly events across multiple venues (including the African American Museum, Betsy Ross House, and Convention Center), featuring museum exhibits, interactive workshops, and author talks running through February.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia’s Black talk radio station, WURD Radio, is using its platform to champion history and culture amid government pushback, relying on a legacy that began with the Philadelphia Tribune in 1884.   • Philadelphia school officials are reviewing proposals to close and consolidate underused school buildings (announced in January) that follow lessons learned from Chicago's massive closures in 2013.
