  • Local activist Gweny Love organizes four to six cleanups a year to remove litter, junk, and debris from Mantua (West Philly) to connect residents and promote environmental care. Her nonprofit Mantua Worldwide Community relies on word of mouth to recruit volunteers and spread a sense of responsibility for neighborhood upkeep.  Spotlight PA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Johnson & Johnson will build a $1B cell therapy manufacturing plant in Lower Gwynedd Township that is expected to create over 4,000 construction jobs and 500 biomanufacturing roles over the next 12 years as the state provides $41.5 million in tax credits & grants to support the project.  WHYY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Black Cinema Week starts at Film Society East with ($14) screenings celebrating Black voices, while Philadelphia gears up for Lunar New Year festivities at Rail Park on Saturday featuring lion dances and live music.  WHYY
  • Iconic South Philly artist Isaiah Zagar died at 86 after complications from heart failure and Parkinson’s disease, according to a statement from Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (he founded the mosaic hub in 1991 and left a legacy of hundreds of public mosaics since moving to South Street in 1968).  KYW Newsradio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Parker’s office installed 76 air quality sensors around the city to give residents real-time data via the new Breathe Philly online dashboard as announced on Wednesday. The sensors now track PM2.5 and NO2, and their capabilities will expand by spring (to include ozone measures) as research continues.  Metro Philadelphia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday during PGW’s 2027 budget presentation, Port Richmond residents and clean energy advocates opposed spending millions to expand the LNG facility on the Delaware River, questioning the reliance on more natural gas when the area (with a history of industrial pollution) could face greater health risks.  KYW Newsradio

SPORTS NEWS

  • After the All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers lost 117-107 to the Atlanta Hawks at home on Friday, Feb. 20. Tyrese Maxey scored 28 points while the Hawks' Jalen Johnson led with 32, and the Sixers will head to New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Lane Johnson will return to the Eagles in 2026 + the veteran tackle with two Super Bowl wins brings key strength to his 14th NFL season.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Philadelphia Union opened their season in Trinidad with a 5 to 0 rout over Defence Force FC during leg one of their Concacaf Champions Cup tie, with debutants showing promise + fresh energy on the field. They will play leg two at Subaru Park on Feb. 26.  Metro Philadelphia
  • After returning from the All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers lost 117-106 to the Atlanta Hawks today at their home court (Tyrese Maxey scored 28 points and Quentin Grimes added 14) as they prepare to face New Orleans on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Smoothie King Center.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Tuesday, Philadelphia’s soccer officials announced that Ivory Coast has chosen Subaru Park and WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester as its training base camp for the FIFA World Cup 2026—along with Wilmington designated as its home base during the team’s North American tour.  Metro Philadelphia
