CULTURE NEWS

  • Workers set up for next week’s Philadelphia Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center despite heavy snowfall and icy roads. The event will run from Feb. 28 to March 8 and planners postponed Monday’s load in order to ensure safe truck access + adjust for weather delays.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls makes her musical theater debut with 'Starstruck' at Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope — the musical is based on 'Cyrano de Bergerac' and the film Roxanne and runs until March 21.  WHYY
  • Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar marks its 25th year with a free Anniversary Open House on Saturday, March 7 (snow date March 8) from noon to 4 at 10 S. 2nd Street, featuring returning chef Guillermo Veloso with revived dishes, rum tastings and live entertainment.  Metro Philadelphia

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A 1973 deed may block the District’s plan to close Lankenau Environmental Science Magnet High School in Roxborough for a housing project.   • A coalition supporting Pennsylvania teachers released a report on strategic staffing to boost recruitment and retention amid shortages, noting that teacher certifications fell to about 6,200 in 2024 (the report details $10,000 stipends for interns and reimagined teacher roles to enhance collaboration).  KYW Newsradio

  • Philadelphia Parks and Rec will launch the first dedicated trail-maintenance crew this summer to repair about 80 miles of trails in 10 watershed parks. The six-person team is funded by a $600,000 grant aimed at keeping paths safe and enjoyable for all.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Pennsylvania lawmakers held a Tuesday hearing in Harrisburg on how artificial intelligence may impact health care. Lawmakers and experts outlined potential benefits like easing administrative tasks plus warned that lack of transparency and oversight calls for federal guidelines.  KYW Newsradio

  • Phillies top prospect Aidan Miller is dealing with back soreness and is taking it easy this week, missing the first three spring training games as he receives treatment (manager Rob Thomson said he is focused on recovery).  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia 76ers won 135-114 over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday as Joel Embiid returned after missing five games for shin soreness, scoring 27 points + leading a balanced offense with Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.  Metro Philadelphia
