  • The Philadelphia Flower Show opens today at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where fantasy tableaus explore 250 years of American gardening including a 23-ft flower arch and exhibits from local designers like Robertson’s Flowers.  WHYY
  • Philly is hosting a citywide quest inviting residents to drop a pin on a photo featuring Isaiah Zagar’s mosaics. The interactive challenge runs this week across various local sites—giving art fans a new way to explore the late artist’s legacy.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A spokesperson for Penn said there are no records of a 'quantum gravity program' — records show that in the 1990s, funds went to a loop quantum gravity project at Penn State. The mix-up reveals a case of mistaken academic identity between the two institutions.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Philadelphia School Board voted Thursday night to remove half-days from the rest of this school year and cut eight half-days from next year's schedule to boost attendance, which rose from 53% to 70% without half-days * according to Superintendent Tony Watlington.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia CBP officers seized 36 bronze swords and 50 arrowheads from an Oct. 16, 2025 flight from the UAE after scanning a shipment that lacked required Iran permits (experts dated the items to 1600 to 1000 BCE). They will safeguard the antiquities until a new home is found.  KYW Newsradio
  • On Oct. 16, CBP officers in Philadelphia seized 36 Bronze Age swords and 50 arrowheads imported without permits, determined to be artifacts likely from northeastern Iran dating back almost 4,000 years — the items may soon be repatriated.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philadelphia Union advanced to the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 after a thrashing of Defence Force FC at Subaru Park on Thursday. 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan scored two goals and made two assists (making him the youngest scorer in tournament history) and club will face Club América on March 10.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia Union will host NYCFC at Subaru Park this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. following a loss last Saturday as part of MLS Matchday Two, with all games viewable on Apple TV.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Friday, Aaron Nola made his Spring Training debut in the Grapefruit League by pitching two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out two batters. He will start on March 4 for the Phillies before heading to Houston to pitch for Team Italy.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Flyers rallied from a two-goal deficit Thursday night to beat the Rangers 3-2 in overtime, with rookie Matvei Michkov scoring twice (including the game-winning goal) for their first win since returning from break.  Metro Philadelphia
