COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Center City District announced 20 Open Streets dates for 2026 in Rittenhouse and Midtown. The program will begin on Sunday, April 5 (on West Walnut Street) to give pedestrians easier access to local shops and will include a Tuesday pilot in Midtown Village in June.  KYW Newsradio
  • Mayor Parker said a new solution center, Hope 220, has opened at the old Hahnemann Hospital site in Center City to serve 90 people by offering care and housing help; the Salvation Army runs the center at 220 N. Broad St.— backed by a half-million-dollar donation from PHLCares.  WHYY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friends of Rittenhouse Square announced that a bench will soon be dedicated in memory of longtime radio DJ Pierre Robert, who loved spending quiet moments here + enjoying a coffee and a book. The memorial, planned for May, honors his 44-year career with WMMR.  WHYY
  • Philly Photo Day invites locals and visitors to submit photos on 'How we stay free?' from April 6 to 12 for a semiquincentennial celebration. The free exhibition will run at TILT’s Project Gallery in The Crane Arts Building from May 14 to June 27 with an exclusive preview on April 30.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philly bars host events to celebrate National Espresso Martini Day. On Saturday, March 14, the Northern Liberties Business Improvement District organizes an espresso martini crawl, and on Sunday, March 15, R&D Cocktail Bar will serve specialty drinks (with dessert and live DJ) as part of the festivities.  Metro Philadelphia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a federal judge heard arguments at a Philadelphia hearing on whether Penn must produce employee records for an EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) antisemitism probe; the court’s decision is still pending after a four-hour session.  KYW Newsradio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • William Way will demolish its 135-year-old headquarters at 1315 Spruce St to build a new five- to six-story center + affordable apartments for older adults. The nonprofit currently runs programs off-site and will begin construction by the end of 2027.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Union takes the field tonight at 7 pm at Subaru Park against Club América in the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 while coach Bradley Carnell leads a full-strength squad to turn early season struggles around.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Philadelphia 76ers have struggled in the third quarter and posted a -273 point differential through early March, turning halftime leads into losses. Coaches plan to try scripted plays and automatic timeouts to boost rebounding and shot selection + prevent opponents' runs.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Sixers came back to beat the Grizzlies 139-129 Tuesday as Kelly Oubre enjoyed a career game and Cam Payne scored 32 points with ten assists — VJ Edgecombe returned from injury while Tyrese Maxey is set to miss about three weeks.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Sunday afternoon, Union II won 1-0 at Subaru Park against FC Cincinnati 2, extending their unbeaten MLS Next Pro run. Coach Ryan Richter made key substitutions while Finn Sundstrom scored the lone goal, and the team will next host CT United FC on Sunday, Mar. 15 at 3 p.m.  Metro Philadelphia
