BUSINESS NEWS

  • TerraPower Isotopes will invest $450M to build a 250,000 sqft facility in Southwest Philadelphia’s Bellwether District, where it will manufacture actinium-225 for cancer drug development. The project is expected to create 225 full-time jobs over the next three years (as announced by Gov. Shapiro’s office).  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ensemble Arts Philly and The Shubert Organization announced a 14-show Broadway season in Center City that will begin with Mamma Mia! on Sept. 29, 2026 and end with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in July, featuring award-winning musicals at the Academy of Music, Miller Theater, + Forrest Theatre.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope, will accept the Liberty Medal on Friday, July 3 as part of the 16-day celebration for America’s 250th anniversary at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. He will deliver live remarks from the Vatican that are shown on Independence Mall (per officials).  Metro Philadelphia
  • Panda Fest will return to Dilworth Park next month as founder BiuBiu Xu expands the family-friendly event with over 60 food and craft vendors & diverse cultural programming. Gate entry is $20 with free admission for children under six.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Organizers announced that Roots Picnic will move from the Mann Center to Belmont Plateau on May 30 and 31, with Jay-Z headlining the first night & added improvements like two entrances and a new update app.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA is reaching out to riders as it readies a redesigned bus network launching in August (previously known as Bus Revolution). Today, a virtual town hall runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at SEPTA headquarters to explain route changes and gather feedback, with more sessions planned in March and April.  Metro Philadelphia
  • PHL security lines may get longer today as two TSA checkpoints at Terminals A-West and F close due to an agent shortage amid the ongoing DHS shutdown — TSA PreCheck remains available at Terminals A-East and D/E.  KYW Newsradio

  • A new study interviewed 29 formerly incarcerated Black men who report depression, PTSD, and anxiety even as they describe themselves as 'doing OK' despite box-check evaluations during incarceration — highlighting biases in mental health assessments and the need for community trust in tailored care.  Metro Philadelphia

  • The Philadelphia Union lost 3-1 to Atlanta United in Atlanta and remain winless this season, marking a sharp decline from their best start last year.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Bryce Harper is set to lead Team USA in the World Baseball Classic final tonight as they face Venezuela, with Philadelphia fans watching & hoping for a strong performance ahead of the Phillies season.   • MLS suspended Philadelphia Union's Sporting Director Ernst Tanner for sexist, homophobic & racist remarks. He will remain without pay until June 1 and must complete a league-approved restorative practices program before returning to his role.  KYW Newsradio
  • The Philadelphia Eagles signed WR Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal worth up to 6.5 million dollars to fill a gap in their receiving corps after losing a key free agent. The contract ties in with recent moves to strengthen the team’s offense.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Quentin Grimes powered the Sixers to wins over Brooklyn and Portland with 28 and 31 points as the team overcame injuries to key players. The guard, who signed a one-year $8.7M contract, has logged strong performances in his last seven games (boosting the squad until star players return).  Metro Philadelphia
