CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning romance writer B.K. Borison released her new book And Now, Back to You last month. In the novel, a Baltimore character orders a sub from Wawa (a choice that has drawn backlash from Philadelphia readers who favor hoagie) as the author defends her regional speech.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art is moving the famed Rocky statue (a loaner from Sylvester Stallone) inside today for its first indoor display as part of the Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments exhibit. Nearby steps and streets are closed to allow the relocation.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A report from the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia shows that increased immigration enforcement is hurting the local gig economy by reducing opportunities for freelance work. The crackdown may affect earnings and future business trends in the city.  KYW Newsradio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than a year after illegal dumping left 4,000 tires in Tacony Park, city cleanup efforts, volunteer work, and new infrastructure have reclaimed the area, doubling park use. A new 50-acre nature preserve will open in April — offering a green gateway and job opportunities for local youth.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA plans to install solar-powered screens at select bus and trolley stops to show arrival times, replacing paper signs. The upgrade will improve rider experience and reduce waste.  KYW Newsradio
  • SEPTA announced its pilot program to install digital real-time arrival displays at selected bus and trolley stops across the city. The solar-powered, e-paper screens with text-to-speech will be mounted on 10 stops later this spring to help riders plan their trips.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Pennsylvania officials revised the broadband funding plan to boost SpaceX satellite service from 18% to 23% of locations and reduce spending to $711 million while federal cost caps forced Comcast to cut coverage and led Talkie Communications to decline its fiber grant, leaving leftover funds subject to future guidance.  Spotlight PA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pennsylvania’s Drug and Alcohol Programs will launch Narcan in Courts on Friday to expand naloxone access by placing 600 kits+1,200 doses in 512 Magisterial District Judge courts and all 67 county courthouses statewide.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joel Embiid remains questionable for today's game against the Bulls following a Tuesday night injury report, while Paul George returns after a 25-game suspension and is expected to play. Embiid has missed several games due to knee flare-ups and an oblique strain.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Holy Family University women’s basketball team advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time and will face Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Division II NCAA tournament (a historic feat) as the tournament progresses.  KYW Newsradio
