  • Philadelphia Parks & Recreation launches free lifeguard training at Lincoln High School & Friends Select School for youth 16-24, offering free Red Cross certification, wages starting at $16.85 per hour, and bonuses of $1,000 for 200 work hours if applying by April 15 or $500 if by May 15.  WHYY

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday at midnight in Center City, a local kicked an 18-day-old Uber Eats delivery robot near Juniper and Locust Streets—adding to recent incidents of robot vandalism that officials say may lead to criminal mischief charges.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • The 133-year-old Phoenix Wheel is being rebuilt on Bridge Street by borough hall in Phoenixville as a tribute to its storied past — a ribbon-cutting is planned for early June.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • Sen. Dave McCormick joined NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya Tuesday at Penn Medicine’s Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine to tour labs where researchers develop new treatments such as chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy. He vowed to oppose any federal funding cuts to preserve innovation in Pennsylvania.  WHYY
  • Hundreds attended a zoning hearing at Poquessing Middle School on March 31 to review Al-Asr Islamic Community Center’s request for a mosque on Buck Road in Feasterville — with a new hearing set for May 5 to address a revised parking plan and public comments.  WHYY
  • SEPTA finalized a deal to add 24 rail cars from Montreal's Exo transit system (costing $8.6 million) to boost its Regional Rail fleet. The transaction will enhance local service and build transit capacity.  KYW Newsradio
  • SEPTA is purchasing 24 Bombardier rail cars from Montreal’s Exo for $8.58 million to boost Regional Rail capacity as it repairs its aging fleet. The authority is planning modifications and transport logistics for delivery — the cars are expected to be operational in the future.  Metro Philadelphia
