COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Workers began making cosmetic improvements to the Market East corridor on Thursday in final preparation for upcoming festivities in Philadelphia. The work is set to enhance the area for community celebrations & boost local pride.  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cherry blossom season fills the city with celebrations; Morris Arboretum hosted a Sake and Sakura Sip and Stroll on Thursday (April 2) while Longwood Gardens will host a wine dinner on April 23. Local gardens, park trails, and pop-up bars offer many ways for Philadelphians to enjoy spring.  Metro Philadelphia
  • This weekend, Philly hosts family and arts events — the 93rd Easter Promenade on South Street Sunday at noon with costume contests and free bunny ears, SneakerCon on Saturday at the Convention Center, and 'The Sound of Music' playing through Sunday at the Academy of Music.  WHYY
  • The Greatest Hits record store in Media has produced a new vinyl record — featuring nearly 100 tracks that capture the sounds of Delaware County.  KYW Newsradio
  • This April, Fort Mifflin will host the Mud Island Speakeasy, a 1920s-themed jazz event featuring live music by Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society, specialty cocktails, interactive contests, and games. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local volunteers will join Canal Clean-up Day on Saturday, April 11 from 9 AM - noon along the Delaware Canal and Towpath. The event calls for help in designated areas of Bristol and Falls Townships, with sign-up details available online.  Metro Philadelphia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Free Library will add Sunday hours next year at up to nine branches, including the Central Library and three regional libraries, if the city budget proposal is approved in June. The new schedule aims to improve access for working families, students, and seniors.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Six area communities—in Media, Nether Providence, Upper Providence, Rose Valley, Rutledge, and Swarthmore—are planning to introduce a regional EMS authority for 40,000 residents after Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s closure; a proposal modeled after Lancaster County is expected later this month.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • The Reading Fightin Phils announced their initial 2026 roster on Monday—featuring seven top-30 prospects—and will open the season on the road against the Akron Rubber Ducks on Thursday night.  Metro Philadelphia
  • After a strong March, Sixers rookie VJ Edgecombe was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month, announced Thursday, after averaging 18.9 points in 13 games (playing with key teammates absent).
