CULTURE NEWS

  • Philadelphia Museum of Art and PAFA joined forces to present 'A Nation of Artists' - one of the largest American art exhibitions featuring over 1,000 works spanning 250 years of creativity. The exhibit opened on April 11 and runs until September at both museum venues.  WHYY
  • The federal government unveiled digital renderings that soften the narrative at the President’s House by limiting references to slavery and recasting George Washington ahead of summer’s 250th anniversary. Advocates in Philadelphia said the proposed panels omit details on the nine enslaved individuals — and court orders have paused permanent changes.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The dialogue-free performance Once Upon A Glow: Stories in the Blacklight will light up Plays & Players’ Skinner Studio on April 25 during Philly Theatre Week as audiences enjoy a unique blend of dance, puppetry and blacklight effects with pay-what-you-can tickets (kids under 12 free).  Metro Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia tourism leaders declared at the National Constitution Center Tuesday afternoon that the city is ready for major 2026 events like the World Cup & MLB All-Star game despite falling international travel, with forecasts predicting a 4.5% increase in international trips though full recovery may not come until 2030.  Metro Philadelphia

  • State lawmakers introduced legislation to designate the scarlet tanager as Pennsylvania’s official migratory bird; the colorful songbird, known for symbolizing healthy forests, can be seen in local spots like Wissahickon Valley Park + Pennypack Park.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials met Saturday morning at Vare Recreation Center to address safety concerns following the Grays Ferry parking garage collapse.
