COMMUNITY NEWS

  • John Welsh Memorial Fountain in West Fairmount Park will be restored with a plan costing about ($18 million) that includes a $2.3 million state grant for better walkways and streets after community input. Construction will begin this fall near the Please Touch Museum.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • After weeks of fighting and a weak ceasefire, Philadelphia's Iranian community met in Center City to share hope for change and worry for family back home while local groups call for an end to far-away oppression, balancing these feelings with local economic needs (and a push for unity).  WHYY

  • City officials plan the cleanup of a large illegal dump off Pennway Street in Northeast near a clear tributary of Tacony Creek (adjacent to a 50-acre preserve).   • Philadelphia's Shapiro administration unveiled a five-year maternal health strategy that already allocated nearly $600,000 for first-year initiatives such as screening for mental health & substance use. LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local lab tests show that products sold as magic mushrooms at gas stations sometimes contain synthetic drugs + THC or nothing at all, raising concerns about misleading labels and lack of oversight in Philly.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • The Sixers face the Magic tonight in a play-in game where a win secures their spot as the seventh seed to meet the Celtics, and without Embiid, they will rely on Paul George, Kelly Oubre Jr. and the centers to control margins (a key factor against Orlando’s athletic lineup).  Metro Philadelphia
