  • This week in Philly, a man’s eight-night Wawa hot dog quest ended at 10:30 p.m. when a case was finally restocked, and the Flyers returned to playoff action while city leaders pitched for the 2028 DNC using local icons such as Patti LaBelle, Rival Bros. coffee + Tastykakes.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • An anonymous donor launched a Habitat for Humanity initiative that will see Philadelphia build and rehab 26 affordable homes in Sharswood and Brewerytown over the next two years. The project, inspired by Pope Leo XIV — a Villanova grad, will involve local high school, college volunteers and church groups.  WHYY

  • Former Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has joined with Crooked Pop, a locally based organic hard soda brand that makes zero-sugar and gluten-free drinks including Orange Cream, Blackberry, and Cherry Lime. CULTURE NEWS

  • Forty-five Philadelphia artists will exhibit Radical Americana work that challenges patriotic nostalgia for America's 250th anniversary – the Clay Studio-led project features 25 shows across the city and nearby counties from March through summer.  WHYY
  • Julie K. Brown, a longtime investigative reporter who credits her Philly upbringing with forging her tough spirit, continues to work from her Old City apartment while balancing major assignments with local commitments (a nod to Philly grit).  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Over 1,000 Philadelphians took part in a printmaking workshop where they rewrote the Declaration of Independence; their prints are on view at the Free Library's Parkway branch (a semiquincentennial civic art project) through August.  WHYY

  • A new Pew report shows that many seniors face varied decisions on retiring because of rising costs, health insurance needs and caregiving duties—while some continue working for financial security or personal fulfillment, with workforce participation growing from 14% to 17% since 2013.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Villanova University and Notre Dame will open the 2026-27 NCAA season in Rome with a doubleheader on Nov. 1 – the event will feature men’s and women’s games and special programming uniting academics, athletics and spirituality.   • After an off day, the Phillies play the Braves in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Today's game starts at 7:20 p.m. on FOX and features a key pitching matchup between Chris Sale and Cristopher Sanchez.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Tonight, Phillies pitchers Taijuan Walker and rookie Andrew Painter will face lefty Matt Olson who boasts a 1.029 OPS and 15 home runs at Citizens Bank Park as the team seeks to rebound after dropping two of three to the Cubs.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Atlanta Braves delivered a 9-0 shutout win over the Phillies Friday night at Citizens Bank Park, with starter Taijuan Walker struggling (his ERA increased from 7.36 to 9.16 after four innings); the teams will meet again tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.  Metro Philadelphia
