  • Volunteers from Villanova University and Habitat for Humanity broke ground Saturday on Pope Leo Village in North Philadelphia – a project funded by an anonymous donor to build 26 affordable homes and promote youth volunteerism over the next two years.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • On Saturday, Temple Made Fest drew 108 entrepreneurs, including students and alumni, to Temple's campus (along 13th Street and Polett Walk) where vendors sold jewelry, art, crafts, and services. The popular event doubled in size since its 2025 debut and may expand to twice a year.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • Roots Picnic will perform in London this summer at Crystal Palace Bowl starting Saturday, Aug. 8, with Nas & The Roots joining for a special act. Philly’s Roots Picnic will run on May 30 and 31 at Belmont Plateau with Jay-Z and Erykah Badu headlining.  KYW Newsradio

  • Philadelphia will celebrate Earth Day 2026 with eco-friendly events across the city including East Market’s community celebration on April 22, themed specials at Stir and Loretta’s, and nature play at Please Touch Museum on April 25 & volunteer work at West Fairmount Park.  Metro Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia residents in the new Philadelphia Land Steward Union are calling for a revised land acquisition process from the Land Bank—requesting 180 days of exclusive neighbor rights and expanded eligibility for homeowners and long term renters. They launched their platform Saturday at Hartranft Community Center.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Saturday night’s game at Citizens Bank Park, rookie Felix Reyes homered in his first at-bat before the Phillies fell 3-1, dropping them to a 5-9 home record. The team will try to rebound today in Sunday Night Baseball as Andrew Painter takes the mound.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Eagles GM Howie Roseman said the team will focus on offense in the 2026 NFL Draft as he reveals his list of 30 top college players from colleges including Georgia, Penn State & Utah.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Today, the 76ers begin their playoffs series at Boston without star Joel Embiid after his appendicitis surgery. Philadelphia relies on Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe as the Celtics, boosted by Jayson Tatum’s return, set a tough challenge for the home team.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia Union will play DC United at home on Sunday, April 19 (aiming for a second win after a 1-0 loss on opening weekend and a gritty comeback win in Montreal) as both teams fight for crucial points in the Eastern Conference.  Metro Philadelphia
