EDUCATION NEWS

  • Olney High faces potential cuts that may remove 13 teachers and cancel its college-prep program as the district adjusts budgets amid a $300 million deficit — teachers, students, and parents plan a rally on Tuesday after school to oppose the changes.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The school board will vote today on Superintendent Watlington's updated facilities plan that removes Ludlow Elementary from the closure list and upgrades 169 schools at a cost of $3 billion.   • The American Lung Association's 2026 State of the Air report shows that more than 1 million children in Pennsylvania breathe unhealthy air as Philadelphia's ranking for year-round fine particle pollution rose from 26th last year to 17th this year. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Abandoned car reports fell by about 1,000 from last year, thanks to improved teamwork by police and the Parking Authority under Mayor Parker’s administration (which began January 2024). Residents in North Philly, West Philly and Kensington still face parking challenges as the system works to clear vehicles.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Phillies' president said that with the team at 8 to 14, offense, pitching (and defense) have fallen short and no change is planned for manager Rob Thomson, even as the team works to overcome bad luck and improve play.   • Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler will make his season debut Saturday against the Braves in Atlanta after recovering from blood clot surgery; manager Rob Thomson said he is expected to pitch six innings & roughly 90 total pitches.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Phillies lost 7-4 to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday as Schwarber & Harper homered and the team fell to a seven-game losing streak. Officials warn the club risks playoff hopes if improvements do not come soon.  Metro Philadelphia
