ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 157-year-old English yew (the largest of its kind in the state) was felled Friday at Laurel Hill West Cemetery due to illness, and a new dawn redwood has been planted in its memory with a bench and keepsakes crafted from its wood planned.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents on the 300 block of Glen Echo Road in Mount Airy face an 8 year safety threat from a collapsing retaining wall. The city promised repairs in 2023 and says design work will finish this summer, but residents remain worried about permit delays and ongoing hazards + communication lapses.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public health teams across Pennsylvania saw a drop in STI cases between 2024 and 2025, with gonorrhea down (990 in 2025 versus 1,153 in 2024) and similar declines in syphilis cases, state data show. Authorities plan to continue free testing and outreach at local health centers and schools.  WHYY
