  • Mayor Cherelle Parker announced a revival plan for Market East to bring pop-up shops, events & street improvements ahead of summer celebrations. The plan includes the program Meantime on Market starting May 6 to test new uses for vacant storefronts, boost foot traffic, and support local entrepreneurs in the corridor.  Metro Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum finished a $4.2M upgrade to its 150-year-old marble floor after 10 years of fundraising. Reclaimed marble is now used at local eateries + in renovations planned for Center City spaces to bring historic charm to modern design.  WHYY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is offering 300 free Pocket Meadow Kits to help homeowners convert lawns to meadows; registration opens today at 9 a.m. with kits featuring seed mixes for native grasses and wildflowers—homeowners can begin yard prep in July and plant in the fall.  WHYY

  • A federal judge on Monday blocked an earlier order that would have required Penn to give the names of staff tied to Jewish groups, as the university pursues its appeal. The ruling pauses the disclosure pending review by the appeals court.  WHYY
  • City officials announced #ItsASummerThing at City Hall Monday to offer 9,000 confirmed summer jobs for youth and boost the number to 10,000 by partnering with local businesses; the program also provides summer meals, play streets (library adventures and camps) to keep children safe and engaged while school is out.  WHYY

HEALTH NEWS

  • New studies published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics warned that a change in the hepatitis B vaccine schedule, which delayed the shot for infants born to virus-negative mothers, would likely lead to extra infections, higher costs, and greater liver risks, a decision that has also raised concerns among Philadelphia healthcare providers.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
