CULTURE NEWS

  • The fourth annual Sing Us Home Festival in Manayunk drew nearly 3,000 people at Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center from May 1–3 and featured headline performances by Dave Hause (with Ted Leo, Will Hoge, and Jenny Owen Youngs) along with surprise guest appearances.  WHYY
  • Artist Jesse Krimes will unveil his Riverside mural on the north tower of 990 Spring Garden St in the Spring Arts District at a public dedication event at Triple Bottom Brewing on Thursday, May 28. The mural (built from community workshop collages) highlights voices of formerly incarcerated Philadelphians.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Jesse Krimes holds his first solo exhibition in Philly at the Fabric Workshop and Museum. His Elegy Quilts series features quilts made from donated fabrics and inspired by memories from incarcerated people, and the exhibit will be on view until Nov. 1.  WHYY
  • Bruce Springsteen’s concert in Philadelphia has been moved to May 30 due to a 76ers playoff scheduling conflict at Xfinity Mobile Arena; fans can use their existing tickets for the rescheduled show during a busy weekend that also features the Roots Picnic (official announcement).  The Philadelphia Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia residents can receive LIHEAP grants from $200 to $1,000 to help pay heating bills and should apply by Friday, May 8; households (earning up to 150% of the poverty line) are eligible and funds go directly to utility providers.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Flyers lost 3-0 to the Hurricanes in Game 1 as Logan Stankoven scored early, Jackson Blake added a second goal, and Frederik Andersen posted a 19-save shutout — leaving Philly to adjust its offense for Game 2.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Union II is set to face rivals Red Bull New York II this Sunday afternoon at Subaru Park with kickoff at 3 p.m. ET; a win would tie them with their rivals in the league standings, and tickets remain available online & via free live streaming.  Metro Philadelphia
