- ➤ Philadelphia artist José Ortiz-Pagán will open Mesa Blanca, a community art space in September at Jasper House on E. Boston St. The venue will serve herbal teas, matcha & specialty coffee, marking a new chapter after his $85,000 Pew Fellowship win and ongoing creative work. Metro Philadelphia
- ➤ Philadelphia 250 is set to launch Neighborhood Jawnts, a free attraction with guided bus tours of 20 local neighborhoods from May 29 to Oct. 25. - ➤ Pennsylvania Hospital Museum opened May 8 at the Pine Building to celebrate the 275th anniversary of America’s oldest chartered hospital; lead curator Stacey Peeples said exhibits include a restored apothecary (with a medical library and the nation’s first surgical amphitheater) that honor Philadelphia’s long healthcare legacy. - ➤ Temple University employee Peggy E. Moore (75) walked the stage this week after 44 years of service and earned her degree. She said she is not retiring and may pursue a master’s degree to continue growing her career at the school. The Philadelphia Inquirer
- ➤ Yesterday, Boothwyn Elementary surprised PE teacher Scott Messick, who is fighting rare appendix cancer, with a school assembly featuring a get-well video and the announcement he would be honored at Teacher Appreciation Night at Citizens Bank Park — his return energized students and staff. - ➤ On Friday, May 8, SEPTA launched a multi-rider feature that lets riders use contactless payments for up to five fares using cards or mobile apps. PATCO is finishing validator installations so that contactless payment will be available soon, and new ticket machines for cash riders are scheduled for summer. KYW Newsradio
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Sixers lost Game 3 to the Knicks 108-94, with Maxey limited by injury and Paul George not scoring after Q1 (putting the team at risk of elimination). They now seek adjustments before their next home game. Metro Philadelphia
- ➤ The Flyers are one game away from elimination after falling 4-1 to Carolina in Game 3, as they struggled with power play and discipline. The team must improve quickly to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive. Metro Philadelphia
- ➤ Friday night, the Rockies scored five earned runs in the third to build a 6-0 lead over the Phillies and forced extra innings, with Colorado winning 9-7.
