  • A Mother’s Day brunch + held in South Philadelphia offered a space for grieving families to remember loved ones and start healing.   • Philadelphia will open a new half-mile segment of the Schuylkill River Trail on May 17 that connects Center City to the Grays Ferry neighborhood, a decade-long $48 million project. Trail users can preview the route at a fundraiser on May 14 — the segment features a suspension bridge over a freight line that offers views of the river.  WHYY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An explosion rocked a Washington Township neighborhood early Sunday when crews arrived at 2 a.m. near Orion Way & Tranquility Court and found a home engulfed in flames as two bodies were recovered and damage extended to two neighboring homes while the cause remains under investigation.  KYW Newsradio
  • A SEPTA train hit an end-of-track barrier at Norristown Transportation Center on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., injuring eight people with one being airlifted to Temple University Hospital—investigation is underway to determine the cause.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • Montgomery County authorities investigated a tragic incident on Saturday in which 57-year-old Tonya Dupree killed her husband at her King of Prussia home and tried to shoot her son—who wrested the gun away—before taking her own life as her body was later found floating in the Schuylkill River near East Falls.  KYW Newsradio
