BUSINESS NEWS

  • Travel industry and business leaders warn that a proposal to remove customs officers from airports — including Philadelphia — could disrupt international flights and hurt local commerce if the plan moves forward.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 30 and 31, tens of thousands visited Roots Picnic at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park to see Jay-Z headline with The Roots. Despite long wait times, the festival delivered strong community energy and showcased a historic music lineup.  WHYY
  • The five-piece band Henbane finished recording and mixing its debut album at Uniform Recording (Kensington) and will release it in the coming months. The group blends classic British folk rock with a unique Philly sound.  WHYY
  • A new immersive performance brings Philadelphia's abolitionist history to life at the historic Byberry Friends Meeting House with stories of Robert and Harriet Purvis and Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield. The free event takes place Saturday, June 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. (registration required).  Metro Philadelphia
  • F1 Arcade Philadelphia launched a Family Experience package on May 23 that offers groups of three to five racers — including one under 18 — 25 minutes of racing with simulators and kid-friendly dining. The offer is available in the first two service hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.  Metro Philadelphia

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PECO offers public rooftop garden tours as part of the PHS Garden Season (which launched in early May), giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at green infrastructure atop its headquarters above Market Street. The tours emphasize sustainable design and urban resilience using native, drought-tolerant plants.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Phillies beat the Dodgers 4-3 after Edmundo Sosa hit a go-ahead two-run homer and Jhoan Duran tallied his 12th save—marking the team’s 30th win of the season. The team ended its California road swing before heading home for an off day.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Phillies moved their roster on Friday before their weekend series with the Dodgers, sending Otto Kemp back to Triple-A and promoting switch-hitter Steward Berroa. The new call-up is expected to add speed and solid defense off the bench.  Metro Philadelphia
  • AEW brought star wrestlers including Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, and Adam Copeland back to Philadelphia with a three-hour show at The Liacouras Center — a local favorite venue on Temple University’s campus — earlier this week. The event set up matchups ahead of Forbidden Door on June 28 at SAP Center.  Metro Philadelphia
