GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent study by SSRS for the Lenfest Institute shows Philadelphia residents feel Mayor Parker is not seen enough as she tackles drug issues in Kensington and promotes clean and green initiatives. • On Friday, the ACLU of Pennsylvania and Community Justice Project filed a lawsuit against Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran to stop an ICE agreement made in May under the 287(g) program that would have about a dozen deputies assist in ICE activities. Community groups, including Make The Road PA and NAACP Bucks County, claim the sheriff acted without county commissioners’ approval and that the pact will hurt public safety by discouraging immigrants from reporting crimes + officials are reviewing the suit.  WHYY
  • The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by the GOP and kept a Pennsylvania court decision that allows voters to cast provisional ballots when mail-in votes are voided for technical reasons. The ruling was released Friday—after a software error sent early notifications—and follows an earlier similar error.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Phillies placed Bryce Harper on a 10-day injured list on Saturday after he got treatment for right wrist inflammation. Utility player Otto Kemp was added to the roster—he will fill several positions—while the team begins Harper’s treatment.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
