Good morning, Philadelphia. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 25th of June.

CRIME NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering bills that would give nearly all students free school lunches and stop schools from punishing students for unpaid meal debt. The measures would restore a pandemic-era policy with state funds and may cost about $360 million a year—if approved by the committees.  Spotlight PA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia lawmakers are holding a hearing to address gaps in the hemp-derived THC market that lets products be sold with no age checks or required testing—Sen. Dan Laughlin said the industry has grown in a legal gray area. Lawmakers plan to review new rules that would set up a unified regulatory structure for both hemp products and adult-use cannabis.  KYW Newsradio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Sixers are planning to trade up from their No. 35 pick in the 2025 NBA draft to try and secure a player like Michigan center Danny Wolf or Arkansas forward Adou Thiero, who both offer size+quickness to boost the team. The team will act if one of these prospects slips into their range, adding an option for a key bench contributor.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Phillies and Astros meet in a series rematch of the 2022 World Series as both teams lead their divisions and seek to boost their standings. Key pitchers—Ranger Suarez, Zack Wheeler, and Cristopher Sánchez for the Phillies and Framber Valdez, Colton Gordon, and Hunter Brown for the Astros—will face off in a crucial matchup this season.  Metro Philadelphia
  • J.T. Realmuto did not hit well early in the season but improved in June as his future becomes uncertain with his contract set to end after the season. Phillies president Dave Dombrowski will decide if Realmuto returns and if he must take a lower salary — the team's decision depends on his continued strong performance.  Metro Philadelphia
