  • The Brandywine Valley SPCA took in 33 cats and dogs displaced by Texas floods—brought in on two rescue flights to free up shelter space—and now offers them for adoption at its facilities in West Chester, New Castle, and Lindenwold.  KYW Newsradio

  • Bob Beaty, a longtime salvage expert in Philadelphia, will close his Beaty American Salvage business at the end of July after 50 years of keeping old items out of landfills. He said his mission was to save pieces from demolition—he now plans to use raw materials to make furniture.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal judge awarded New Jersey photographer J.G. $8.7 million after a Philadelphia man allegedly stole her naked photos from her phone and posted them on websites (the largest judgment of its kind under the new law) Monday.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • On July 14, 2025, about 75 local residents met with WHYY journalists at City Hall—locals shared ideas on issues such as SEPTA service cuts and child care that will guide upcoming news stories in Philadelphia.  WHYY

  • At Room 67, a tattoo studio on the border of East Kensington and Fishtown, tattoo artist Rachel Behm started Tattubu to hand-tattoo and bedazzle Labubus, the collectible keychains that have sparked a summer trend in Philly.   • Sixers' top pick VJ Edgecombe returned in his Summer League debut on June 25, scoring 28 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and adding four assists after missing four games with a wrist injury (he had been sidelined by thumb and wrist issues).   • The Philadelphia Union moved back into first place in the Eastern Conference and the Supporters’ Shield standings after they beat the New York Red Bulls 2-0 at Subaru Park on Saturday night — their ninth clean sheet and 12th game without a loss, marking midfielder Alejandro Bedoya’s 300th match. Columbus Crew beat FC Cincinnati 4-2 in the Hell is Real derby while Vancouver Whitecaps lost 3-0 to Colorado Rapids and Minnesota United rose to second in the West with a 4-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes.  Metro Philadelphia
