  • Manayunk Restaurant Week will return next month from September 8 to 14 with over 20 local restaurants offering three-course lunch and dinner menus at prices from $15 to $45.   • The Women’s Community Revitalization Project is hiring an Organizing Director in Philadelphia to lead community campaigns and build coalitions for affordable housing and social equity.   • A man was shot inside a North Philly barbershop on the 3200 block of Germantown Avenue just before 10 a.m. Saturday and was taken by private car to a nearby hospital, while police search for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting on Woodstock and Diamond streets on Friday.  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Former UArts students and staff gathered at Thunderbird Salvage in Kensington on Saturday to reclaim their artwork from Anderson Hall after the school closed last year—Thunderbird offered free items for those who proved ownership and discounted supplies for others. The sale will continue today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with more items available.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • A study of 30 non-Korean K-pop fans in Philly shows that the Korean Wave gives them relief and a sense of belonging beyond mainstream media. The study—published in the World Leisure Journal—finds that uplifting music and dramas help fans escape stress and build community.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway is now home to Bar None — a temporary public art piece by Nicolo Gentile that uses police barricades to show historical images of protests and celebrations from the past 120 years. Commissioned by the Association for Public Art, the work will remain on view until the end of October and includes a talk on Sept. 18 and a workshop on Oct. 4 at the nearby Free Library.  WHYY

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 220 people received free cavity fillings, Pap smears, and glasses at a pop-up clinic on Saturday at School of the Future in West Philadelphia run by Remote Area Medical (RAM) and partners DentMed Inc. and the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office. The volunteer clinic, which opened at 6 a.m. (with patients already waiting outside), served residents facing tighter insurance rules.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Six Eagles players including safety Drew Mukuba and cornerback Jakorian Bennett will try to earn starting roles in the preseason game against the Cleveland Browns Saturday—each player competing for a spot before the roster is cut from 90 to 53. Their joint practice sessions showed both strong plays and setbacks—raising the stakes as bubble players get a chance to prove themselves.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center — a main venue for the 76ers, Flyers, and an upcoming WNBA team — will be renamed Xfinity Mobile Arena on Sept 1 after Comcast Spectacor announced the change on Aug. 14. The arena will host sports and entertainment events until the teams move to a new South Philly stadium after the 2030–2031 season.  Metro Philadelphia
