- ➤ Venezuelan prep cook Andres Paredes Morales, who held a valid work permit and was awaiting an immigration hearing for an extended visa, was detained by ICE near King of Prussia on July 31—fiancée Amanda Souza, who planned their wedding, has launched a GoFundMe for his legal fees amid rising local ICE actions. - ➤ Two men were shot in East Germantown early Sunday on North 21st Street between Nedro and Kemble Avenues (one man was shot in the head and fights for his life) as police said a car crash (found on the street) may have been involved, and no arrests have been made. KYW Newsradio

- ➤ Holy Redeemer Church, built in October 1941 as the first Catholic church for Chinese Americans in the area, has been a key part of Chinatown by offering education and spurring activism—such as opposing the Vine Street expressway; today, it faces declining enrollment while new Mandarin-speaking parishioners bring hope. - ➤ A new mural celebrating Black girlhood was unveiled on Saturday at 41st and Wallace in West Philly — it shows Jordyn Battle’s smiling face at age 11 with a baby reflection and was created by muralist Shanina Dionna with help from over 20 girls from We REIGN.
