CRIME NEWS

  • Police said that overnight shootings across Philadelphia left at least three people dead and others wounded in multiple incidents including one near 3 a.m. on West Ruscomb Street in Logan where a gunman opened fire on a group—another fatal shooting occurred at Warnock Street and Spencer Avenue in Fern Rock and a man was fatally shot in Kensington, with no arrests made.  KYW Newsradio
  • On Sunday at 11 a.m., Villanova University told students and staff to shelter in place after a false active shooter call was reported from Austin Hall—police cleared the scene soon after while the FBI led the investigation, marking the second such call this week.  WHYY

  • The Philly Bookstore Crawl took place on Aug. 23 as local indie bookstores hosted special events—such as a breakfast special and a postcard-writing party—and welcomed new store additions to the route.   • Philadelphia Eagles traded a sixth round pick in 2026 to get Vikings quarterback Sam Howell — the deal comes after Tanner McKee hurt his finger today as the Vikings received a fifth round pick in 2026 and a seventh round pick in 2027.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Hundreds of runners took part in the Philly 10K run on Sunday as they started at 7:30 a.m. at 8th and South Streets and ran a 6.2-mile course through popular spots in South Philly, finishing at 5th and South Streets where a post-race festival featured live music and local vendors.  KYW Newsradio
