ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday afternoon, a van hit pedestrians on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia— the driver died at the scene, one pedestrian died at 2:49 p.m. in hospital, and the other remains critically injured.  KYW Newsradio
  • On Thursday afternoon just before 2 p.m., a driver heading south on the 9000 block of East Roosevelt Boulevard struck two pedestrians in Northeast Philadelphia—one pedestrian died at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital while the other remains critically injured—and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • Amtrak began paid service for its new NextGen Acela high-speed trains yesterday at 30th Street Station. The redesigned trains offer a faster ride up to 160 mph—wider seats, improved lighting, free high-speed 5G Wi-Fi and an upgraded café for passengers along the Northeast Corridor.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia will host the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps' semiquincentennial event starting Oct. 9 with a parade of ships, a televised concert, and a picnic with a celebrity chef. More than 1,800 service members and 300,000 visitors will join along the Delaware River—marking a historic military homecoming—setting the stage for America’s 250th birthday celebrations.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Philadelphia fire stations will soon offer overdose reversal medication for free in newspaper-style boxes installed outside 61 stations in neighborhoods with rising opioid overdoses+ city officials said residents can also access free training on how to use the drug to help prevent fatal overdoses.  WHYY
  • Twenty-year-old Lina Jenkins died on Oct. 8, 2023, after taking a dietary supplement called Zaza that contained unapproved tianeptine and was nicknamed 'gas station heroin,' and her mother filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, distributor & the Quakertown mini-mart that sold it.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • On Thursday evening, the Phillies crushed the Braves 19-4 on Star Wars Night — Kyle Schwarber hit four historic home runs while Aaron Nola moved into third place in franchise strikeouts, lifting the team's spirits.
