ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Labor Day, two motorcycle crashes in Philadelphia left a 46-year-old rider in Kensington and another rider in Northeast Philadelphia critically injured—police are investigating both incidents.  KYW Newsradio

CRIME NEWS

  • Police investigated a hit-and-run accident in Fairmount Park after a bicyclist was fatally struck in the 1600 block of Belmont Avenue on Tuesday morning near the Avenue of the Republic, with a black Dodge Charger seized for evidence and no arrests made.  WHYY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moore College of Art & Design has opened a new residence hall in Rittenhouse Square — a 33% capacity boost — that guarantees on-campus housing for all 501 students during their studies. Other Philly-area colleges — including Temple, St. Joseph's, Eastern, Chestnut Hill, Gwynedd Mercy, and Swarthmore — have unveiled new buildings and launched fresh programs to enhance student life this school year.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Shervon Thompson, principal and Dobbins alum, spoke yesterday about the strong legacy of career technical education at the high school that offers courses in barbering, graphics, plumbing and more. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Citylight Church in Manayunk transformed a historic mill by leaving its ground floor empty and renovating the second floor using Passive House design—this $7.5 million project will protect the building from future flood risks and serve as a model for preserving historic spaces in flood-prone areas.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
