CULTURE NEWS

  • In August, Philadelphia returned a 2000-pound bronze statue of Frank Rizzo to the supporters who commissioned it in 1992—although the agreement bars its public display—igniting a debate over his legacy.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Bodies of Water, an immersive dance piece by Naked Stark, will unfold on Sept. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. inside the historic Water Works Interpretive Center—part of the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe Festival—where visitors will see dance, film, guided tours and a closing reception.  Metro Philadelphia

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Free Library of Philadelphia is launching the FLoP Bowl, a citywide esports tournament for teens that will start on September 22 and run weekly through December 8 at 10 library branches—players will battle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Teens must sign up in person with a student ID or library card—winners will receive a custom trophy, library swag, and gift cards.  Metro Philadelphia
  • CollegeFest 2025 gives college students free museum admission and local activities on Sept. 20 and 21 in Philadelphia—attendees can register online to get a digital ticket for over 25 sites, enjoy a block party on Race Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and access free breakfast, Philly PHLASH rides, and $1 bike rides.  Metro Philadelphia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Philadelphia judge on Sept. 4th ordered SEPTA to reverse a 20% service cut that took effect last week—restoring 32 bus lines, 16 shortened routes, and sports express trains on the Broad Street Line—while allowing a 21.5% fare increase that raised base fares from $2.50 to $2.90; officials said SEPTA would need 10 days to fully return to its previous schedule.  Metro Philadelphia

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents and health advocates in Grays Ferry rallied on Sept. 6 to protest CHOP's plan to build a 1,005-vehicle parking garage at 3000 Grays Ferry Ave—saying the project could worsen air pollution and harm community health. The hospital said it held multiple meetings and revised the project design to include community spaces, while protesters plan to share their concerns at a city planning meeting on Sept. 22.  WHYY

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Philadelphia eateries are offering Eagles-themed treats for game day, including cupcakes at Madison K Cookies + burger boxes at P’unk Burger and sandwich platters at Famous 4th Street Delicatessen. Fans can call ahead for custom orders and catering to enjoy a festive football experience.  Metro Philadelphia

  • After a weather delay that kept fans home until early morning, the Eagles beat the Cowboys 24-20 in their season opener. Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on an opposing player—Coach Nick Sirianni now leads the team to a 5-0 start.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Sept 4, the Eagles beat the Cowboys 24–20 at Lincoln Financial Field in a game with a lightning delay and an early ejection. Jalen Hurts led with 152 passing yards and two touchdowns—while kicker Jake Elliott made a 58-yard field goal to secure the win.  Metro Philadelphia
