CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities charged Matthew Laiss after ERIC — a multistate voter roll program — uncovered his alleged double voting in 2020 when he reportedly cast votes in Bucks County and Florida.  Spotlight PA
  • A suspect in the vandalism at the Weitzman National Museum surrendered to police after cameras captured him spraying red paint on the museum’s exterior along Independence Mall on Aug. 18th and police have not released his name or confirmed if he is charged for both incidents.  KYW Newsradio
  • Philadelphia police responded at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday to a call at a Germantown home on Mechanic Street where an unresponsive 2-month-old girl was found—she was taken to Einstein Medical Center and pronounced dead while officials investigated the cause.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kids under 16 must wear helmets on e-bikes and scooters in Haverford Township after officials approved a new ordinance Monday night following a fatal scooter crash that killed Abigail Gillon. Haverford Township Police said they will issue warnings at first and then enforce a $25 fine starting January 1st, 2026 — parents will be notified if their child does not comply.  KYW Newsradio
  • Philadelphia started a $9 million ad drive on Tuesday to bring more visitors for the nation’s 250th birthday—this drive includes $4 million from the city and many events planned for 2026. The city hopes to get 10—20% more visitors than in a regular year.  KYW Newsradio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania State Police will host free car seat safety inspections during three days the week of Sept.22 so families can learn how to install car seats correctly in Philadelphia. Officials report that many seats are not secured properly — certified technicians will help fix installation mistakes on-site.  KYW Newsradio

SPORTS NEWS

  • On September 9, the Phillies beat the Mets 9-3 at Citizens Bank Park as Ranger Suarez pitched six shutout innings — striking out 12 — while Kyle Schwarber hit his 50th home run.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was fined $57,000 after he was ejected for spitting at the opposing quarterback in the season opener at Lincoln Financial Field; he will return for week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Fans are relieved that he avoided a suspension — his penalty keeps him in the game.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Eagles beat the Cowboys in week 1 and will face the Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans — a game that may shift the season's momentum as they build on their win.  Metro Philadelphia
