  • On Wednesday, September 17th, the Philly Vintage Flea was held at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks — attracting over 100 vendors who sold vintage and secondhand clothing and memorabilia including items like sports jerseys, wrestling t-shirts, and concert posters to local shoppers.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sept. 16, 2025, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor spoke at the Philadelphia Free Library branch on the Ben Franklin Parkway where she discussed her new children’s book Just Shine! How to Be a Better You — which draws on lessons from her late mother and aims to help children see their inner brilliance. She answered fan-submitted questions at the event and explained how writing helped turn her personal grief into hope for young readers.  WHYY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn Carey Law launched the Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander Post-Graduate Fellowship to honor its first Black female graduate after suspending her full-tuition scholarship and reducing DEI efforts last month—Philadelphia Councilmember Jaime Gauthier said the move is a step in the right direction while urging the university to fully reinstate its DEI programs.  KYW Newsradio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability installed a double-coat test patch of CoolSeal reflective pavement near Hunting Park Recreation Center this summer to lower high road temperatures — researchers from Penn are tracking its durability and effect on air temperature while initial findings do not show clear improvement in pedestrian comfort. City officials will review the results in fall to decide if the method should be used more broadly.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Immigrant rights advocates rallied in Philadelphia on Sept. 17—calling on Gov. Josh Shapiro to end state collaboration with ICE and support legislation for driver’s licenses for all residents. The demonstrators argued that current state policies expose immigrants to greater risks during ICE raids.  WHYY
  • Philadelphia International Airport introduced a new logo and the slogan Good Things Start Here — the move comes as airport officials plan $2 billion in upgrades that will improve terminals, exit lanes and waiting areas for 30 million annual travelers ahead of a busy 2026.  WHYY
  • Food truck owners testified against a new curfew and say city officials checked their permits and towed trucks hours later—actions they believe are retaliatory. The Institute for Justice has threatened a lawsuit while city officials insist that the inspections were planned before the testimony.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Fall will begin on Sept 22 at 2:19 p.m. when the autumnal equinox occurs — the event that makes day and night nearly equal; local cafes and stores have already started offering pumpkin spice options in honor of the season.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flyers rookie camp ended Tuesday and a representative said Carter Hart should start fresh, so he will not return. The team will begin training camp Thursday—players like Tyson Foerster and Travis Sanheim are getting ready while injury reports are checked.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts led a commanding performance with a dominating defense to a 20—17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on September 14—where rookie safety Andrew Mukuba made the game-sealing interception that boosted the team’s record to 18—1 in their last 19 games.  Metro Philadelphia
  • At Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night, Phillies catcher Rafael Marchán hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth that lifted the team to a 9–6 win over the Dodgers—securing the season series win and a stronger playoff position. The homer, which came after he replaced an under-the-weather Realmuto, gave the Phillies an edge as they pushed toward a bye in the NL Wild Card round.  Metro Philadelphia
