ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today the EPA finalized new water quality standards that protect the endangered Atlantic sturgeon and other fish along 38 miles of the Delaware River—rules that require wastewater plants to treat ammonia. Environmental groups say the new rules will help fish breed and grow while making the river healthier.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Philadelphia is suing Bimbo Bakeries + SC Johnson for falsely claiming that their plastic packaging is recyclable when local facilities cannot process it. City Solicitor Renee Garcia said the misleading labels damage recycling operations and cost taxpayers more.  KYW Newsradio
  • Pennsylvania now offers a free legal hotline for grandparents raising grandchildren that is staffed by attorneys from the SeniorLAW Center to provide legal advice and referrals—this service helps residents age 60 and up navigate custody cases and secure additional support.  WHYY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Philadelphia Eagles leave early for Tampa Bay to adjust to the Florida heat ahead of their game against the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Sept 28 at 1:00 p.m. They plan to use every advantage—full-strength offense and precise plays—to overcome the Buccaneers' defense and boost their playoff chances.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout today—he is working with specialists on his recovery. The team will hold media day tomorrow before traveling to Abu Dhabi for preseason matchups.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Thursday night, the Phillies beat the Marlins 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park — earning their 33rd series win and tying the franchise record. Pitcher Walker Buehler performed well as manager Rob Thomson said strong pitching will boost the team for upcoming games.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo set new career highs by throwing seven shutout innings—he struck out 10 to reach 216 strikeouts and pitch 183.2 innings—and helped the team lock in the second playoff seed.   • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts explained his calm reaction to Jordan Davis' 61-yard touchdown run and blocked field goal during the 27-26 win over the Rams on Sept 21st.
