  • Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday warned that Medicare patients and their families have received unexpected deliveries of wheelchairs, oxygen machines, and other equipment not prescribed by a doctor—fraudsters behind the scam urge them not to pay bills or share personal details.  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kathryn Grody previewed her new one-woman play, The Unexpected 3rd, at People’s Light theater in Malvern yesterday and used humor to challenge views on aging. The play—extended to Oct. 26—draws on her unexpected pandemic stardom and examines both the challenges and rewards of getting older.  WHYY
  • Philadelphia theaters are showing 11 top plays this fall—featuring historic dramas on Martin Luther King Jr., Zora Neale Hurston and rock legends, as well as new stories that mix old themes with modern ideas. Each production is paired with local dining and drink spots to offer audiences a full night out.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia's punk scene started in 1974 and grew with small shows and gatherings in squats and houses in West Philly—mixing loud music and political action. Today, local punks use music to fight for change and build community.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia left the Kimmel Center after a 24-year run because rising costs made the venue too expensive, and its 2025-26 concerts will be held at venues including the Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Philadelphia Film Society. The group will save about $70,000 and plans to move to a renovated Center City venue near Broad Street in the next season.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Barnes Foundation will host a series of art, music and community events in October. The schedule includes a First Friday mixer with jazz vocalist Denise King on Oct. 3 — a free Family Day on Oct. 5 with Indigenous Peoples’ Day readings, art workshops for Parkinson’s patients on Oct. 11, and a curator-led conversation on Henri Rousseau on Oct. 19 — offering varied experiences for art lovers.  Metro Philadelphia

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philadelphia’s public school district launched a pilot driver’s education program for CTE students to help them earn a driver’s license needed for work and safe navigation of busy streets. Seventy-five students have finished the course and 50 are set to take the test—critics say the small scale may limit access for others.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council approved a law that limits a lookback for misdemeanor convictions from seven to four years and stops employers from using summary offenses in hiring decisions—meant to give job seekers a fair chance. The measure also requires firms to notify applicants when withdrawing job offers and to allow proof of expunged records, and it passed unanimously.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia officials launched a new bilingual application today that combines five real estate tax assistance programs into one streamlined process for homeowners—reducing paperwork and easing access to benefits. The project, a joint effort by the Department of Revenue, the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, and the Office of Innovation and Technology, is part of the Better Services PHL program under Mayor Parker’s Executive Order 2-24.  Metro Philadelphia

  • Sixers rookie VJ Edgecombe, drafted third overall in summer, met NBA legend Dwayne Wade at the Intuition by Aramis event and said the encounter felt like a kid moment (it gave him extra drive to improve his game).  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Philadelphia 76ers began training camp Saturday morning as they prepared for their trip to Abu Dhabi and upcoming preseason games.
