  • More than 1,000 Philadelphians signed a petition demanding safer conditions in Fairmount Park after cyclist Harry Fenton died there. Advocacy groups including Bike Action Philly call for traffic calming measures and a lower speed limit, and they plan a protest on Oct. 12 — while the city works with PennDOT and the Streets Department on redesigning park roads.  WHYY

  • The Philadelphia Blues Society will host its first annual blues festival on Oct. 11 at Temple University’s Ambler Campus—six sets from local and internationally renowned artists will perform acoustic and electric blues.   • On Saturday at Citizens Bank Park, the Dodgers won Game 1 of the NLDS 5-3 over the Phillies to take a 1-0 series lead.
