ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After global talks on plastic pollution fell apart in August, state and local leaders are planning laws to cut microplastics by banning tiny plastics in products like glitter and by requiring washing machine filters+ Pennsylvania officials are among those exploring similar steps to curb pollution from synthetic clothes and tire wear.  Metro Philadelphia

HEALTH NEWS

  • Temple nurses and techs ratified a new three-year contract that includes wage increases of 3% to 3.25% and enhanced safety measures—covering 2,600 workers and averting a strike set to begin Monday.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Brevet Capital Management presented plans for an apartment tower at 1341 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. that will have 620 units and a small retail building—future phases may add two more towers while meeting city rules for housing trust contributions and public space improvements along the Delaware River Trail. The project will start building the first 380-foot tower in summer and may adjust parking and traffic solutions along Columbus Boulevard.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Scot Loeffler, a veteran quarterback coach with a long resume including Michigan, Florida, and Virginia Tech, was hired by the Eagles to work with Jalen Hurts — his careful play-calling has shaped talents like Tim Tebow and Logan Thomas. His disciplined approach may lead to a future promotion to offensive coordinator, bringing college ingenuity to the team.  Metro Philadelphia
  • During the Temple vs Navy football game on Oct. 11 at Lincoln Financial Field, Temple quarterback #6 Evan Simon was pushed out of the pocket by Navy’s #49 Adam Klenk.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Joel Embiid returned to the court in the Sixers' Blue x White scrimmage on Sunday—his first play since February after recovering from a torn meniscus—and coach Nick Nurse said he showed progress in drills and five-on-five play. No confirmation has been given yet for his participation in the Friday preseason game or Wednesday season opener.  Metro Philadelphia
