COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Philadelphia will host Flannel Fest on Sunday, Nov. 2 from noon to 5 p.m. at Braid Mill in Germantown—an event featuring local food trucks, craft brews, live music and family-friendly activities while proceeds support local small businesses and nonprofits.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Hundreds of Philadelphians marched at LOVE Park yesterday to honor the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Million Man March, an event that urged Black men to build their communities, avoid drugs and violence, and vote. Local activist Kenneth Salaam opened the event with a prayer—reminding attendees to push back against injustice and continue the march's call for self-help and unity.  WHYY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Level99, a Massachusetts-based experiential retail company, announced plans to open a 46,000-square-foot live social-gaming venue at King of Prussia Mall in 2027, featuring 50 life-size mini games + a full-service bar and restaurant. The venue will occupy the former JCPenney space and marks Level99’s first venture into the local market.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • Kada Scott’s family held a vigil on Sunday morning at the Philadelphia Art Museum by releasing balloons to honor the life of the Mount Airy woman—police reported that her body was found on Oct 18 after a search that lasted two weeks and organizers led a walk to raise domestic violence awareness.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists Jake Poeske and Jack Gentry competed in the 17th Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby on Frankford Avenue—after their original bird costumes were stolen they quickly switched to Big Bird onesies and raced their handmade entry, 'The Early Bird Doesn’t Catch the Worm,' through a three‐mile course and muddy pit challenge. Judges scored each contraption on design, durability, and dynamism at the all‐day arts festival, with the duo finishing second behind the winning entry.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Opera Philadelphia is hosting a week-long silent horror film series at the Wanamaker Building’s Greek Hall starting today and continuing through Oct. 31 with live organ music. The series—curated by Carrie Rickey—requires advance registration for free screenings.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Eagles beat the Giants by a score of 38—20 as Saquon Barkley's 65—yard touchdown run sparked a strong rushing game that shifted the team's momentum. The win boosts the Eagles ahead of their bye week while the Giants continue to struggle on offense.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Pickleball has surged in Philadelphia as businesses turn vacant retail spaces and old courts into dedicated pickleball venues—local clubs now offer pay-as-you-go and membership options while cities back free play sessions. Investors and municipalities are adapting existing spaces to meet rising demand as the sport grows and new indoor facilities plan to open this fall.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Eagles beat the Giants 38 to 20 as Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby each rushed for over 100 yards — marking the first Eagles running back duo to do so since 2013 — and the defense recorded a season-high five sacks on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
