  • Philly craft chocolate makers are planning special treats for upcoming events as rising cocoa costs and other ingredient prices challenge production—producers say that using less sugar and more quality cocoa will give customers a richer taste.   • Legendary disc jockey Pierre Robert died on Wednesday at 70 and became an icon during his 44-year career on 93.3 WMMR. He joined the station in 1981 from San Francisco, hosting a popular midday show with live music and exclusive interviews — a career that earned him a spot on the Walk of Fame in 2019.  KYW Newsradio

  • Nearly 500K Philadelphians who rely on SNAP benefits will not receive food assistance starting November 1 due to the government shutdown; state agencies have urged residents to visit food banks + soup kitchens until funds are restored.  Metro Philadelphia
  • SEPTA is requesting a two-week extension to finish inspections on its 50-year-old Silverliner railcars because only 108 out of 223 have been inspected and just 35 are back in service—while the agency plans to start repairs soon and is in talks to secure replacement cars to ease delays for riders.  WHYY

  • Pennsylvania health systems are using AI to analyze CT scans and MRIs for faster disease detection + lawmakers have introduced a bill to set rules on its use + doctors will keep the final say in treatment decisions.  WHYY

  • The Flyers won the shootout over the Penguins with a final score of two to one after Travis Konecny scored his 200th career goal, marking a milestone for the team.   • Harry Donahue, 77, a longtime KYW Newsradio anchor and voice for Temple sports — known for calling Temple men’s basketball and football games — died Wednesday after a battle with cancer, leaving a legacy that shaped Philadelphia sports broadcasting for decades.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola got the Philanthropist of the Year Award and designated hitter Kyle Schwarber received the National League Outstanding Player Award, with the MLB Players Association honoring them — Nola for helping veterans and feeding those in need and Schwarber for his 56 home runs and 132 RBIs this season.   • The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Giants with 427 total yards, two players rushing for 100 yards, and Jalen Hurts completing 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns.
