- ➤ Philadelphia film events offer many movie experiences this month. A rare screening of Twin Peaks: The Return will be held at Film Society East starting Nov. 14—while the Asian American Film Festival runs through Nov. 16 and Bryn Mawr Film Institute shows Kurosawa films through December. - ➤ The National Dog Show returns to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center this weekend with nearly 2,000 dogs in 205 breeds including a new Danish Swedish farmdog. - ➤ Philadelphia high school students and teachers can apply for the Young Philadelphians’ Continental Congress (YPhCC), a new American history and civics program that offers $500 scholarships for students and $1,000 stipends with professional development for teachers. The program will select 20 to 25 student-teacher teams to meet on five Saturdays between January and April at Carpenters’ Hall and other historic sites (meals and transportation provided) as applications remain open until December 5. - ➤ Activists from POWER Interfaith are urging city officials to repeal planned business tax cuts — changes that could shift the tax burden onto vulnerable residents and reduce funding for key services — after holding a news conference Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Germantown. They plan to hold 14 additional meetings next week and a Citywide Affordability Summit on Feb.1. WHYY
- ➤ Flight delays and cancellations at PHL increased from about 25% on Friday to nearly 50% on Sunday and the FAA plans to raise air traffic cuts to 6% today, 8% Thursday and 10% Friday—officials say shortages and controller absences due to the shutdown are behind the disruptions.
