Good morning, Philadelphia. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 18th of November.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dictionary.com named 6-7 word of the year because it comes from a song by Philly rapper Skrilla and spreads through youth culture on TikTok and in sports videos (its meaning is playful and open to interpretation). The trend has even influenced some companies to use the phrase in promotions.  WHYY
  • The Franklin Institute is returning its Apollo-era lunar module to Washington, D.C.—it was on loan from the Smithsonian for 49 years and will no longer be seen by local space fans. The museum is weighing options to replace the artifact but has not made any final plans.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Candice Nguyen quit her corporate job last fall and now makes about $10,000 a month creating content that has greatly boosted her economic mobility. Her success is part of Philly’s emerging creator economy—an effort supported by local groups and Gov. Shapiro to improve opportunities.  Metro Philadelphia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA canceled 12 trains on Monday on the Chestnut Hill West and Fox Chase lines — three in the morning and nine in the afternoon — as part of federally mandated safety upgrades to its Silverliner IV fleet. SEPTA completed fire inspections on all trains by Friday but must install thermal detectors on all cars by Dec. 5, and more updates for Tuesday’s schedule are expected.  KYW Newsradio
  • Lawmakers from Delaware and Maryland are urging PJM to require data centers pay for their own energy as grid-operator stakeholders will present a recommendation on Wednesday—this move is meant to stop families from facing extra electricity costs.  WHYY
  • Philadelphia International Airport will soon resume a normal flight schedule as the FAA rescinded restrictions after government funding ended the shutdown, paving the way for full service restoration. American Airlines and other carriers plan to reinstate their regular schedules ahead of Thanksgiving and the year-end holidays—ensuring smoother travel in the coming days.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • A Philadelphia City Council committee advanced a bill on Monday to ban burning the city’s trash at Chester’s ReWorld Waste to Energy incinerator despite city officials’ request to wait for a full waste plan—sponsor Jaime Gauthier said the incinerator’s emissions have harmed air quality and raised cancer risks.  KYW Newsradio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pennsylvanians are bracing for higher health insurance costs as extra premium tax credits end in December—forcing many to consider extra jobs or spending cuts to keep coverage. Experts note that while three in four will still get some aid, many will face doubled premiums next year, leading to a drop in new enrollments.  WHYY

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local restaurants are offering a range of Thanksgiving to-go meals with options from full dinners to individual pies available for pickup Nov. 26 or Nov. 27. Orders must be placed online by deadlines from Nov. 22 to noon on Nov. 24 — each venue sets its own menu and pricing.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Eagles beat the Lions 16-9 on Sunday as Jalen Hurts scored the only touchdown and Jake Elliott kicked field goals—while the Lions missed key fourth-down attempts and an extra point. The win improved the Eagles' record to 8-2 and kept them in strong contention for top seed in the NFC East.  WHYY
  • Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson suffered a Lisfranc sprain in Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions and will miss 4-6 weeks, so the team will rely on Fred Johnson to step in for upcoming games against tough opponents — including clashes with the Bears, Bills, Cowboys, and Chargers. The team expects him to return before the playoffs as they work to stabilize an offensive line already challenged by injuries.  Metro Philadelphia
