Good morning, Philadelphia. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 22nd of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Philadelphia got a bleak weekly report that shows residents are unhappy and Broad Street is one of the most dangerous roads for pedestrians—10 people died on just a two-mile stretch between 2021 and 2023. The report also covers local news like 79-year-old Ed Callahan being named Eagles Fan of the Year, Michelin’s debut evaluating Philly restaurants, a teen vape buyback program in Montgomery County, and South Philly artist Rose Luardo unveiling her new piece called 'Crab Couch.'  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Philadelphia Art Museum named Daniel H. Weiss as its new CEO less than three weeks after firing Sasha Suda. Weiss, an art historian — formerly head of the Metropolitan Museum — will begin his role on Dec. 1, and he brings strong regional ties to his new position.  WHYY
  • Three Philadelphia restaurants earned one Michelin star each after the Convention and Visitors Bureau funded the rating process—this move aims to boost the city’s dining scene. Food critic John Deutsch said the awards show our food is world-class and may help attract skilled chefs and more tourists.  WHYY
  • A former church at Calvary Community Center in West Philly is now a haunted house called You Are Here where teen artists show their political views with live acts and over 100 art pieces; the art project, led by Not Safe For Teens, opens today — it reflects youth responses to current events and school rules.  WHYY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a Philadelphia school board meeting last Thursday, parents, teachers and principals raised concerns about stalled contract talks, planned school closures and short lunch and bathroom breaks, noting that administrators have worked three months without a contract. Board leaders said the district’s credit rating was upgraded and that they will seek community input on extended facilities planning—while still facing a chronic $1.2 billion funding gap.  WHYY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two new studies warn that New Jersey is at high risk from rising seas — with up to 420 toxic and industrial sites expected to flood by 2050 and 492 by 2100. The reports also predict sea levels could climb nearly three times faster than the global average, endangering coastal communities and local facilities such as Philadelphia’s hazardous sites.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Travis Sanheim scored an overtime goal (his fourth in his career) to secure a series win for the Flyers after they trailed 2-0 early. The win gives the team two crucial points and they face the New Jersey Devils later today with renewed momentum.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Phillies re-signed catcher Garrett Stubbs for the 2026 season & claimed outfielder Pedro León off waivers from Baltimore on Friday. Stubbs signed a split contract that lets him move between the majors and AAA while León may get into the lineup later if the team needs extra outfield help.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Philadelphia Eagles, with an 8 to 2 record, will face the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow at 4:25 p.m. in Dallas—coaches are focusing on key matchups between the Eagles’ pass defense and the Cowboys’ offense—and the team aims to secure a fifth straight win in their final Dallas week of the regular season.  Metro Philadelphia
