BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mama’s Pizzeria on the Main Line, famous for its cheesesteak since 1960—a local favorite—will close its doors next week. Owner Paul Castellucci Sr.—preparing for triple bypass surgery—said the final day will be either Nov. 28 or Nov. 29 based on remaining supplies.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

CULTURE NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • King of Prussia District received a $326,900 grant to plan and build a 2.8-mile trail that will link the Schuylkill River Trail and Chester Valley Trail. The project+ will include design, engineering, and construction work to create a safer path for local walkers, runners, and cyclists.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilmember Jeffery Young plans to build a new library on 19th Street and turn the 64-year-old Cecil B. Moore Library into a public space, but residents say the building should be renovated to keep it accessible. They worry that moving the library will remove a key community resource—especially with the building’s aging HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia Housing Authority will lay off nearly 300 workers from its 1,200-strong team in January as it shifts to using contractors for repair work—this move is part of a $6.3 billion plan to add affordable homes and cut costs by $24 million each year while still building new housing. CEO Kelvin Jeremiah said the change will affect union workers and some management roles as the agency adjusts its work model.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia developers may soon get a 20-year tax abatement to turn vacant schools and offices into homes thanks to a new provision buried in the state budget. City Council and Mayor Parker will craft local law to use the incentive to spur housing conversion—supporting the city’s effort to create more affordable homes.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Jessica Lubniewski and David Jacobs bought a 1,300-square-foot East Falls rowhouse for $327,500—paying $2,500 over the listing price after their offer on a friend’s home was turned down—and the seller covered $5,000 in closing costs while including patio furniture and a grill. They renovated the home before moving in at the end of July but later found outdated electrical wiring in need of replacement.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nearly 30,000 runners took part in the marathon weekend—Saturday’s half marathon challenged competitors to complete a 13.1-mile route in fog and drizzle while passing major landmarks. Family and friends cheered on the racers and are now ready to support today’s AACR Philadelphia Marathon.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New Jersey Devils 6—3 in a game where Dan Vladar started for Philadelphia and Jake Allen guarded New Jersey’s net. After the Devils took an early 1—0 lead, the Flyers scored several goals from Noah Cates, Matvei Michkov, Tyson Foerster, and Trevor Zegras to secure their fifth regulation win of the season.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Teflon Promotions owner Dom Walton is excited to relaunch his pay-per-view event Re:Play Volume 1 — marking a rebirth after last year's setbacks — which will take place Saturday night at the Alan Horwitz Sixth Man Center. Friday's weigh-ins showed one fighter was 10 pounds over, but the main event between Rasheen Brown and Gary Hampton will go on at 6:30 p.m.  Metro Philadelphia
