CULTURE NEWS

  • Philadelphia will host a five-week citywide art festival next summer to celebrate America's 250th birthday, with ArtPhilly set to start May 17 and feature over 30 performances and installations by regional artists. The triennial event will also include a documentary theater piece by Anna Deveare Smith and other projects highlighting regional art and culture.  WHYY
  • Philadelphia-based nonbinary artist LARS released their debut EP I Should Be OK Now—this four-track project shares their journey through transition and celebrates a deep connection with the local queer community. The EP is now available on all streaming platforms.  WHYY
  • Philadelphia will host the 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 27, with a broadcast at 8:30 a.m. and the march starting at 9 a.m. The parade route runs from 20th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard to the Philadelphia Art Museum, and temporary no parking signs, road closures, and SEPTA bus detours will affect local traffic.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new scholarship program named Young Philadelphians Continental Congress will bring high school teams and their teachers to five historic sites to learn about early American democracy. The program, offered to Philadelphia public schools, gives each student a $500 scholarship and provides teachers a stipend — applications are accepted through Dec. 5.  WHYY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA has resumed Regional Rail express trains for the evening commute today while morning riders still face crowded trains and skipped stations due to recent federally mandated inspections on aging cars—disruptions are expected until January. The Center City trolley tunnel remains closed this week for repairs.  KYW Newsradio
  • SEPTA’s Center City trolley tunnel remains closed until the end of November, so riders on the T routes must transfer onto the Market-Frankford Line at 40th Street to reach Center City—with repair crews working on five miles of overhead wires after two October incidents led to a 450-passenger evacuation, though no injuries were reported.  Metro Philadelphia

HEALTH NEWS

  • During National Family Caregivers Month, InnovAge LIFE supports family caregivers in Pennsylvania by offering coordinated care that includes medical services, therapy, transportation, and in-home support (a program designed to ease the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of caregiving).   • Philadelphia restaurants are taking last-minute reservations for Thanksgiving meals as the holiday nears. Options include a Friendsgiving dinner at Attico Rooftop on Nov 27, a prix fixe buffet at Dolce Italian, cruise dinners, and other set menus — all with fixed prices and required bookings made at least 48 hours ahead.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Nov. 21, Penn beat Drexel 84-68 in Big 5 basketball at Daskalakis Athletic Center; the win came after both teams played hard throughout the game.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • The Eagles built a 21 to 0 lead at AT&T Stadium but collapsed as the Cowboys rallied for a 24 to 21 win—leaving the Birds set to host the Chicago Bears for Week 13 at a 3 p.m. kickoff in South Philadelphia.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Sixers were outmuscled by the Heat on Sunday when Miami’s big men — Bam Adebayo and Kel'el Ware — outscored the shorthanded Philly squad in the paint while Tyrese Maxey added 27 points. The team will face the Orlando Magic Tuesday night as they continue to play without key players.  Metro Philadelphia
  • More than 17,000 runners finished the Philadelphia Marathon Sunday as they crossed a 26.2-mile course with a tough hill near Manayunk and fair weather easing their run towards the finish at the Philadelphia Art Museum steps. Many first-time participants and charity runners felt encouraged by sizable cheering crowds (including support at Eakins Oval) while top finishers celebrated strong times (with South African Melikhaya Frans winning the men’s race).  The Philadelphia Inquirer
