CULTURE NEWS

  • America's original Thanksgiving Day Parade returns for its 106th edition on Thursday at 9 a.m. in Center City (with festive performers, a high school all-star band, and many volunteers working behind the scenes) and road closures affecting key streets until the parade ends.  KYW Newsradio
  • The annual Wanamaker Light Show and Dickens Village will return on Black Friday to kick off the holiday season in Philadelphia, featuring the world’s largest fully functioning pipe organ — played in the historic Wanamaker building after Macy’s departure. Visitors will enjoy light shows every half-hour from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Dickens Village open from 12 to 5:30 p.m. with shopping, food, and drinks available.  KYW Newsradio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Philadelphia Gas Works will raise residential bills by about $6 a month on Dec 1—increasing the average from $92.60 to $98.70 after the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s unanimous approval. The rate hike will boost PGW’s revenue by $62 million and will not impact low-income customers enrolled in the Customer Responsibility Program.  WHYY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philadelphia school district reached a tentative four-year contract deal on Monday night that gives raises to 1,000 principals, assistant principals and climate managers — the deal will go to the Board of Education in December for approval.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airports, roads and trains are set to be very busy this Thanksgiving with more than 360,000 flights planned and heavy traffic expected, and Philadelphia may see delays from winter weather and crowded travel spots amid recent shake-ups from the government shutdown. Experts urge travelers to check flight status and prepare their vehicles early & pack smart to ease holiday trips.  KYW Newsradio

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Delaware River Waterfront will host holiday events when the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest opens Friday, Nov. 28—offering free skating, cabins, outdoor firepits, and special food options—while Cherry Street Pier launches holiday shopping with handmade gifts and an art show starting Dec. 5. Visitors will enjoy rides, a Ferris wheel, and a public tree lighting as part of the season’s festivities.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philadelphia law firm Zarwin Baum will host an Eagles tailgate and watch party on Dec. 8 at Live! Casino & Hotel where fans can throw fake snowballs at Santa to raise funds for Easterseals—tickets include food, drink tickets, a raffle and a silent auction. Local sports fans will support charity while enjoying Monday Night Football during this community fundraiser.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Big 5 Classic—an annual contest among six local college teams—will take place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday, Dec. 6 and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia. A Dec. 1 preliminary game between Temple and Villanova will decide which team faces Penn in the championship.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Dallas Cowboys after blowing a 21—0 lead as the Cowboys scored 24 unanswered points in the second half. Coaches said the Eagles struggled with an ineffective offense and heavy penalties—issues they will address ahead of their prime time game against the Chicago Bears at Lincoln Financial Field.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Saturday, Nov. 22, Teflon Promotions hosted Re:Play Volume 1—a seven-bout boxing event at the Alan Horwitz Sixth Man Center that showcased rising local talent. Owner Dom Walton said he will host more shows in 2026 and make the center his main venue to strengthen ties with fighters.  Metro Philadelphia
