  • On Friday night, the school district hosted its first sleep out at Northeast Community Propel Academy to raise funds and support programs for students facing housing insecurity (over 4,400 have received resources) while staff aimed to understand the challenges of 10,000 children lacking stable housing.  KYW Newsradio

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Philadelphia Cultural Fund will start its FY2026 cycle with $13 million in grants for local arts groups, and everyday residents can serve on a peer panel to review 140 applications—deadlines are Jan. 9 for Art & Culture and Jan. 16 for Community Impact grants.  WHYY
  • A citywide photo quest invites residents to guess where Hanukkah themed photos were taken. The challenge runs this week and encourages community participation in spotting local landmarks.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia will celebrate America’s 250th birthday in 2026 with 20 artist-painted foam bells displayed in neighborhoods — including one at the Ninth Street Italian Market that mirrors local history.   • Elkins Estate is adding a boutique event space and a distillery; Morgan Stillhouse (set to produce vodka, gin, and whiskey) will debut by summer in the former stables while the Chelten House opens in the new year for intimate gatherings, with a Valentine’s Day dinner also planned.  The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • The 76ers won 115-105 over the Pacers Friday night as they moved to a 14-10 record, showing promise despite missing Tyrese Maxey due to illness + young players stepped up and Embiid and George had strong outings pointing to a brighter future.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia’s veteran players Brandon Graham and Marcus Epps will take the field Monday night in Los Angeles, filling roles for injured teammates as they bring deep experience (over 300 games combined) to boost the Eagles’ defense.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Flyers fell to the Golden Knights three to two in overtime last night + part of the game was marked by former goalie Carter Hart’s return as Travis Sanheim and Noah Juulsen made key plays.   • The Eagles installed a five foot inflatable positivity bunny in their locker room on December 6 to boost morale after a three game skid. Offensive lineman Jason Kelce said he did not like the decoration and its future depends on upcoming game results.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
