CULTURE NEWS

  • Local chef Jesse Ito offers a Philly kitchen tour at Royal Izakaya where his eight-seat omakase mirrors the bright minimalism of his home kitchen + the intimate setting gives food fans a refined, unique culinary experience.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Philadelphia will host its first outdoor New Year's Eve concert on the Parkway on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Headliner LL Cool J (with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Adam Blackstone, Dorothy and Technician) will perform at an event that opens at 6 p.m. and finishes with midnight fireworks.  Metro Philadelphia
  • Local band Walnut Brain recorded their debut album last fall during a Catskills cabin trip and posted it on Bandcamp in August. The duo will record with music engineer Emily Robb in December, blending diddley bow blues with modern psychedelic improvisation for local underground fans (they are longtime Philadelphia collaborators).  WHYY
  • Jim Clyburn discussed his new book The First Eight at a Free Library of Philadelphia event at Parkway Central Library on Sunday; the book, which memorializes pioneering Black congressmen from South Carolina, blends history and memoir, and Gov. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SEPTA launches a shuttle bus service today from 6 a.m. to midnight for riders impacted by the trolley tunnel closure in Center City. The bus stops at 11 locations (including Market-Frankford Line transfer points) as the tunnel remains closed through the end of December.  Metro Philadelphia

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Forsythia, a contemporary French restaurant at 233 Chestnut St., serves inventive brunch dishes on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering creative options such as beet pickled deviled eggs plus vanilla ricotta beignets and crafted cocktails in a chic setting.  Metro Philadelphia

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 76ers will play the Atlanta Hawks Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The team is expected to miss Tyrese Maxey and possibly Joel Embiid and will rely on players like Paul George + teammates to extend their winning run.  Metro Philadelphia
  • The Eagles splashed the Raiders 31 to 0 at Lincoln Financial Field today, snapping a three game slide and showing teamwork on offense + solid defense. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led key plays and the win boosts hopes for a strong postseason push.  Metro Philadelphia
  • On Monday, Dec. 15, the Sixers lost a close game to the Atlanta Hawks despite a 35-point effort by Paul George (his highest in two games) and a double-double by Joel Embiid; poor execution and a key missed call cost them the win.  Metro Philadelphia
