Good morning, Philadelphia. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of July.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday morning, a large water main broke at Perth and Thompson streets in North Philly and flooded nearby homes by carrying water and debris down Thompson and Franklin streets—about 5 feet of water filled one basement and nearly a dozen cars were towed while crews cut power, and officials have yet to say when repairs will be finished.  KYW Newsradio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania election officials announced a redesigned provisional ballot envelope that makes it clearer where voters and poll workers must sign—Philadelphia will use the new design in November municipal elections as counties may opt in with financial help available. The update aims to cut technical errors that led to a surge in ballot rejections in the 2024 general election.  Spotlight PA
  • The Pennsylvania House passed a bill in late June that will force campaigns to include a clear disclosure in any election ad featuring AI deepfakes (with daily fines up to $15,000 for local races and $250,000 for national contests) during the 90 days before an election. The measure now moves to the state Senate for review as lawmakers work to protect voters from deceptive political ads.  The Philadelphia Inquirer
